OUR ITINERARY

DAY 1 - ARRIVE IN CALIFORNIA AND EXPLORE SAN DIEGO OLD TOWN!

On arrival at San Diego Airport, you'll be taken to our Californian-Mexican style luxury hotel, with its spacious rooms,  just a few minutes walk away from San Diego's Old Town.

Once everyone has arrived we'll head in together to explore the wild west style Old Town, which was the birthplace of California and has a clear and colourful influence from its early Mexican American inhabitants.

Wander the vibrant Mexican style village shops, sample some chocolate, wine or hot sauce tasting, watch a Mexican dance performance, and enjoy some amazing food in the lively bars and restaurants in the Fiesta des Reyes and get to know your new travel buddies!

If you're brave enough, why not bond over a visit to America's most haunted house or one of the many ghost tours around the Old Town's historic buildings?!

DAY 2 - SEALS AND SEA LIONS SPOTTING COASTAL WALK!

Today we're heading to San Diego's famous La Jolla beach area! You'll have some time to chill on the beach before we set off on our walk along a beautiful coastal path, passing some seriously glamorous beach homes before getting closer to the dramatic coastal cliffs, with amazing views of the Californian coastline.

A highlight of this walk is the opportunity to spot San Diego's array of seals and giant sea lions swimming in the Pacific Ocean and basking in the sunshine on the rocks, as seabirds swoop around them.

Our walk ends in the fab little beach town of La Jolla Cove with live music, incredible seafood and great vibes as the sun starts to go down, so we'll take a seat together and soak it all up!

DAY 3 - FREE DAY / DOLPHIN & WHALE WATCHING & BEACH BBQ!

There's lots to see and do in San Diego so today is yours to pick out what you fancy the most! Take the hop-on hop-off 'trolley' style tram to explore more of the city, head to world famous San Diego Zoo, check out Downtown or the many cool suburbs like Little Italy, or simply head to the beach to chill.

Our personal recommendation for one of the best things to do in San Diego, is to take a dolphin and whale watching boat trip. I did this on my reccy trip to plan this tour and got so up close to several enormous whales, it was absolutely breathtaking!

If you'd like to book onto this optional extra activity we can tell you more about what to expect and arrange it for you and anyone else in the group to have this amazing experience together.

Later in the day we'll head to Pacific Beach to soak up iconic Californian beach scenes of joggers, roller bladers and quirky characters filling the beachfront promenade, before enjoying sunset as the locals do, with a beach barbecue!

DAY 4 - TRAVEL TO HAWAI'I AND WATCH THE SUNSET OVER WAIKIKI!

It's time to fly* to Hawai'i and its island of O'ahu, home to capital Honolulu and world famous Waikiki Beach! The views as we come in to land are absolutely stunning. A Manhattan-like skyline hugs the Waikiki coastline beside the looming peaks of iconic Diamond Head Volcano crater, lush forests and mountains, forming the backdrop of wider and much more rural O'ahu.

After landing, our transfer will take us to the heart of Waikiki and our amazing luxury hotel slap bang in the middle of glamorous Kalakaua Avenue, inspired by local artists with a creative island vibe and Hawaiian art and photographs throughout. Your room is one of the best, with incredible balcony views over Waikiki and gorgeous, spacious and modern, yet distinctly Hawaiian inspired decor.

After a little time to relax we'll head to Waikiki's premier rooftop bar and terrace in time for incredible panoramic views and Mai Tais in the sky (or whatever takes your fancy) as the sun sets and the city lights up.

*About a 6 hour flight from San Diego, you'll book this flight as part of your international flights to join this tour, and we can help advise you on the timings you need to work around.

DAY 5 - WAIKIKI WALKING TOUR & BEACH BUM DAY (SURFING OPTIONAL!)

When in Waikiki... it's rude to keep the beach waiting! Today is about embracing your inner beach bum on one of the world's most famous beaches, and if you fancy, your inner surf goddess! Opt for a surfing lesson*, surf the waves in an outrigger canoe* or simply lie on the beach, soak up the atmosphere and watch others do their best! (*Additional cost.)

Not just a beach destination, Waikiki has some serious history and claims to fame, not least surfing legend, Duke Kahanamoku, aka 'The Duke' or 'The Big Kahuna', who put Waikiki on the map as the birthplace of surfing. On a leisurely walking tour we'll take in all the famous sights, from Duke's iconic statue laden with fresh flower leis, his stomping ground with the famous Waikiki Beach Boys at Hawai'i's first hotel, the grand Moana Surfrider, used to house soldiers during the bombing of Pearl Harbour and the Second World War, to where Elvis used to holiday and filmed 60's movie classic Blue Hawai'i, to The Royal Hawaiian or 'Pink Palace of the Pacific' that drew the likes of Marilyn Monroe and Frank Sinatra.

As the sun sets we'll head to Duke's Waikiki beachfront bar and restaurant for live music, great food, after beach vibes... and to find out what all the fuss around Hula pie is about!

DAY 6 - KUALOA RANCH JUNGLE JEEP EXPEDITION & OCEAN VOYAGE!

Today we're heading out of the city for an amazing day in the O'ahu countryside at Kualoa Ranch. These stunning mountain views were one of the things that first put Hawai'i on my must-see list and have to be seen to be believed! A truly epic natural location, this place has been used as the setting for numerous blockbuster movies including Jurassic Park and King Kong and series Lost.

First, we're off exploring on a super fun jungle jeep expedition that takes us deep into the ranch through the forest and up to breathtaking viewpoints, with stops to walk through forest trails and check out sets left behind from the movies.

We'll have lunch back at the ranch before heading off on our Ocean Voyage boat trip, first travelling by raft boat through the ranch's historic fishing lake then boarding a catamaran to sail the turquoise waters of the Pacific Ocean, with simply beautiful panoramic views back to the Kualoa mountain range. I spent this day in awe with a big smile on my face and I'm sure you will too!

DAY 7 - LEARN TO HULA DANCE & HIKE TO RAINFOREST WATERFALL!

Time to get your hula on! Meet a very special Hawaiian lady and discover the wonderful art of Hawai'i's iconic dance, and how it's about much more than just shaking your booty but also preserving Hawaiian culture and stories.

Afterwards we'll take an easy hike through stunning rainforest towards a beautiful waterfall spilling through the trees into the pool below. When I visited here last time, the whole area was being used as the movie set for some scenes out of Aquaman 2, so you can imagine just how dramatic the scenery is here, and that's absolutely why it's worth the visit... (not because I know that Hawaiian Jason Mamoa was here and I'm hoping to bump into him!)

In the evening you have the opportunity to try the special experience of a traditional Hawaiian feast, known as a luau. I've scoured all of the sometimes very touristy options to find Honolulu's most authentic and traditionally Hawaiian luau, and its set up in the mountains at a kukui nut plantation and comes complete with traditional games, coconut leaf headdresses and jewellery and incredible dances, performances and demonstrations from the Hawaiian men and women who love sharing their culture! This is an extra cost so completely optional, but highly recommended.

DAY 8 - POOL LOUNGING / SHOPPING / FREE DAY!

The plan today is... there is no plan! It's yours to do whatever you fancy. Chill on your balcony and soak up those incredible views, or head to our hotel pool area complete with loungers, cabanas, pool side cafe bar and hot tub, all with Waikiki city views surrounded by palm trees.

If shopping's your thing you will not be disappointed in Waikiki! Head straight out onto glamorous, Rodeo-Drive-esque Kalekaua Avenue, lined with the likes of Macy's department store to designer boutiques and palm tree filled open air shopping centres you could get lost in for hours.

If you'd like to visit Pearl Harbour or do anything else not on our itinerary you can ask us for advice to help you arrange it, and of course there's always Waikiki Beach and its neighbouring, quieter beaches to enjoy.

Once the sun's gone down enjoy poolside 'dive-in' movies, or pop just a few steps next door to lively, open air Maui Brewing Company bar and restaurant that's part of our hotel, with live music every night.

DAY 9 - HIKE TO DIAMOND HEAD VOLCANO CRATER & SUNSET CRUISE!

What better way to end our adventure than to get up close and personal with the thing that makes Hawai'i what it is... volcanoes! Every piece of land you'll set foot on in Hawai'i was created by volcanic eruptions from deep beneath the sea that eventually burst through the surface to create the islands that exist today. O'ahu is one of the oldest and the crater of Diamond Head creates an iconic symbol of the city skyline of Honolulu, but it's even more impressive up close.

Our hike will begin with a walk towards the crater as it looms ahead of us, through a deep tunnel carved out of the volcano then up the rocky winding path, until we enter a smaller tunnel through the rock to reach the top. You'll be greeted by sweeping panoramic views over the ocean, where you can see as far as Maui on a clear day, back over the crater and the money shot over Honolulu's stunning skyline hugging Waikiki Beach. If this sounds like too much effort enjoy a free day and more beach time!

For our last night we'll end in style sipping Mai Tais as the sun sets over Waikiki Beach, on a sunset cocktail cruise!

DAY 10 - TRY TO LEAVE HAWAI'I! WHY NOT EXTEND YOUR ADVENTURE?!

Sadly, the time has come for our adventure to end, and for you to tear yourself away from amazing Hawai'i. You'll wake up in your gorgeous Waikiki hotel room one last time, and depending on your onward travel plans, you can enjoy one last morning soaking up the views from your balcony or enjoying a final dip in the pool before saying goodbye to your travel buddies and joining your transfer to the airport.

However, if you're hungry for more adventure, the good news is that travelling to Hawai'i from the UK and Europe usually involves changing flights on the west coast of the US, so you'll have time to include a stopover somewhere else if you fancy, without paying anything extra for your flights!

Choose from San Francisco, LA, Seattle, to name just a few options, or go all out and add on our Vegas Adventure (details being announced very soon!) for a truly epic adventure combo with us!

FAQS

WHAT'S THE AGE GROUP AND REQUIRED HEALTH & FITNESS?

All Travel Queen tours are for women aged 25 to 59 only, and you need to be up for fun and adventure and have a good level of health and fitness! We have this rule so that you and all the other women on the tour know who they'll be sharing their adventure with and so we don't have too big an age gap between people, because that's one of the things our Travel Queens tell us is important to them.

It's also there because our tours are more than just holidays, they are action-packed adventures with lots of travel and activities packed into the itinerary. You don't need to be super fit or a daredevil - this is NOT a fitness freak or adrenaline junkie trip! But you do need to be able to handle with ease things like climbing into boats from the beach, lots of walking and moderate hiking for a decent distance without holding up the rest of the group, and carrying your own bag.

You must inform us of any health conditions or disabilities before making a booking so we can advise you on the suitability of joining a tour, and whether we are able to make adjustments to accommodate your requirements (which we will do where possible), or if this is not possible.

WILL I SHARE A ROOM?

Yes, you will share a room with one other woman throughout the tour, and this may stay the same or change at each new accommodation. The standard of accommodation is high and rooms are very spacious, usually with two Queen double beds so you will have one to yourself. Occasionally, if two Queen beds aren't available then it will be a large King sized bed, but with lots of space. In our experience, as we're all female, most women are more than happy with this and it means we can stay in some beautiful accommodation where there occasionally might not be the option of two beds per room. At the moment, having your own room is not an option.

WILL I NEED A VISA?

Most international visitors to the US need to get a visa or an Electronic System for Travel Authorisation (ESTA) visa waiver to enter or transit the US as a visitor. You should consult the US State Department website to determine which you will need.

I just needed an ESTA for my last trip of a few weeks and the process was a breeze, all done online with a cost of $14, just over £10.

TELL ME ABOUT FLIGHTS!

You will need to arrange your flights separately as these aren't included in the tour price, and make sure you arrive in San Diego Airport by 12pm on Day 1 of the tour, and depart O'ahu's Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu on Day 10 of the tour. You will also need to book a morning flight from San Diego to Honolulu on Day 4 of the tour.

We can give you some advice about the timings required to work around the tour and some tips to find the best flights.

*Top Tip: Sometimes searching for return flights to San Diego or other major cities on the west coast of the US, such as LA, then searching for the flights into and out of Honolulu separately, on the Hawaiian Airlines and South West Airlines / Skyscanner websites, gives better results.

DO I NEED PERSONAL TRAVEL INSURANCE?

Yes, as with any holiday you must ensure that you have personal travel insurance in place to cover your booking, your personal health and other requirements in the lead up to and during the tour, including the activities outlined in the summary above, some of which may be classed as of an adventurous nature.

We strongly advise that you take out your travel insurance immediately after booking to cover your whole booking.

I'VE NEVER DONE ANYTHING LIKE THIS BEFORE!

If this is the first time you have ever done anything like this - don't worry, most of the women who book onto our tours are in exactly the same boat as you! If you need some inspiration from other women about what it's like to join a group tour where you don't know anybody else before you go, you can read and watch the amazing feedback and videos from women who have been on a Travel Queen tour on our Meet Real Travel Queens page here or give me (Mel) a call for a chat - that's why I'm here!

ARE YOUR TOURS JUST FOR WOMEN FROM THE UK?

Absolutely not! We are a UK based company so lots of the women who join our tours are from all over the UK, but we welcome women from all over the world! In fact we are receiving more enquiries from all over the place and our last tour to Croatia had two women fly from the US and one fly from Germany to join us.

WE: TAKE CARE OF YOU AND EVERYTHING ELSE...
YOU: RELAX, ENJOY, EXPLORE & MAKE NEW FRIENDS!
